The most common form of local precast construction is found in Hong Kong Housing Authority public housing projects. Housing Authority adopts a standard module of precast facade in building all public housing estates in Hong Kong.
To introduce precast construction in private projects, more flexibility shall be included into the design of precast elements to suit different types of development. In our research of precast technology for the local market, we integrated the knowledge gained from visits to our counterparts in France, Japan, Singapore, United Kingdom and the United States of America (9).
The result of our product design can eliminate the problem associated with in-situ concreting such as external finishes de-bonding and environmental nuisances caused by concreting process. On the other hand it provide designers with flexibility in elevation design and an economic viable alternative to traditional concreting construction.
