Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2016

The CIOB (HK) Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA) 2016 Presentation Ceremony was held on 8 September. Mr Tony Poon, Senior Project Manager, and Mr Larry Cheung, Project Manager, won the Silver and Commendation awards in the New Works and A&A Works Category respectively.

With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Mr Tony Poon led the team to successfully construct One HarbourGate, a huge commercial and retail building close to the water front at Hung Luen Road, Hung Hom. Under the leadership of Tony, the team overcame many obstacles and completed the building (which has a CFA of 54,812 m2) in 555 calendar days. Tony also effectively managed the site safety and environmental issues and balanced the time, quality and cost to meet the project and client needs. He demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout the construction process.

Mr Larry Cheung, who possesses more than 20 years of experience in different kinds of construction projects, took on the challenging task of the Research Complex of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, which sits on a steep slope adjacent to the Braemar Hill Campus, with the ensuing construction constraints and logistic restrictions. The judges were impressed with Larry’s flexibility in adopting alternative construction methods to improve the quality of the project. Through his commitment and professional management, the building was successfully constructed with the client’s quality requirements, budget and time frame.
