Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2012

The CIOB (HK) Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA) 2012 Presentation Ceremony was held at the Hotel Nikko Hong Kong on 27 September 2013. Mr Tony Za, Senior Contracts Manager, won the Silver Award in the New Works / A&A Works Category for the Project Interlink Development and Mr Bosco Chiang, Senior Site Agent, won the Silver Award of in the Heritage Conservation Category for the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. Both Tony and Bosco were presented with their awards by the Guest-of-Honour Mr. Chan Mo Po, Paul, MH, JP, Secretary for Development of the HKSAR.

Tony led the project team that completed the mega-sized logistic centre, Project Interlink, at Tsing Yi, under an extremely tight time schedule and with rigourous cost control. The construction of this enormous building, which has a total construction floor area of 285,645m2, was completed within 25 months. To meet the tight construction period, innovative ideas, effective and efficient resource scheduling and new technologies, such as laser screed machine and BIM, were deployed. Tony demonstrated outstanding leadership, site planning and time control abilities throughout the construction process.

The conservation and revitalisation of the 150-year-old Asia Society Hong Kong Center at 9 Justive Drive, Admiralty, benefited from Bosco’s 40 years of experience in Hong Kong’s construction industry and his enthusiasm and commitment to seeing a piece of Hong Kong’s heritage preserved.  The challenge of this project was not limited to the conservation works to a historical building, but also included the constraints imposed by the topography and the ecological sensitivity of the site.  Bosco's thorough understanding of the project, his knowledge and experience of heritage conservation and his project planning capabilities were all crucial to the success of this project.
The CMYA is a biennial award, organised by CIOB (HK), which recognises and commends the winner’s distinguished achievement and professional skills in the accomplishment of their responsible projects.
