Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre Phase 1

1 Expo Drive, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
Previous Project Next Project

The large-scale complex combines exhibition and convention halls, deluxe serviced apartments, a modern office building and two five-star hotels in a single development. It first opened in November 1988, and was further expanded in June 1997 due to escalating demand for exhibition and convention space. As the foundations were laid on newly reclaimed land in Wanchai, from the moment the groundbreaking was started the Hip Hing project team had to overcome the constraints set by poor soil quality. A vast number of H-piles and large diameter bored piles were used to accommodate the requirements of the foundation design. The project provided a breakthrough for the Hong Kong construction industry by setting the record for the deepest drilling of bored piles 2.5 metres in diameter.
